The kit comes with all the fabrics for the quilt top and the backing plus the batting, thread, and full instructions. All you have to do is sew them together and finish up the quilt. Katie has very cleverly put together quilt kits so that you can make a quilt too! Wouldn’t this be a fabulous gift from Grandma or Aunty? The tricky bit has been done for you – choosing the fabrics and cutting them. Even big kids treasure the quilts that are made for them as babies so it really is worth the effort to create something special. In fact, I was touched to see that another quilt I made popped up on Facebook the other day when my friend’s little one was asleep sick on the couch – so lovely to know her quilt is still treasured too. It is not at all similar to the quilt in the book or in the kit that you can buy related to the book, but it seemed just silly not to take pictures of a kids’ quilt book on any background other than a kids’ quilt!(You can find the tutorial to make my quilt here.) Now I must point out that the quilt in the background of these pictures is a quilt I made for my son a few years ago. I think my favourite picture is the giant whose pants are fashioned on the magic quilt! The illustrations were done by Katie’s Dad, Glenn, and are bright and colourful and captivating. The story tells of a boy’s handmade quilt that is actually magical and can take him away when he is upset to special places. She based the story on her sons and their love of the quilts she has made for them, something that totally resonates with me as I made my kids quilts when they were younger and I love to see them still treasuring them. This book was sent to me by the author, Katie Sokolic – thank you, Katie! What a sweet story. It is one of the nicest kids books I have read in a long time – and I love kids picture books a lot! Today I have a very special book to share with you.
